cherry tomatoes

cherry tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are more robust than regular tomatoes, with fruits about 2-3 cm in diameter. If cultivated properly, they can be harvested almost daily during the summer. They are perfect for gardening beginners to grow in their home gardens.

Ideal ambient temperature: around 25~30°C.

Avoid water accumulation/flooding

Although they need water, if the soil is too waterlogged (soaked), the seeds will rot due to lack of oxygen.

Avoid soil drying

The soil must be kept moist. If it is too dry, the seeds will not be able to absorb water and will fail to germinate.

Until it sprouts, place it in a shady place for half a day.

Avoid direct sunlight; place in a semi-shaded area (with diffused light).

Sow 4 to 5 seeds in a flowerpot, cover with a thin layer of soil, and place in a bright, shady spot away from direct sunlight .

Post-germination management

After germination and during the early stages of growth, water gently with a sprayer to avoid washing away the seedlings. Water thoroughly when the soil surface is dry.

Thinning (shortening seedlings)

When the seedlings have grown 2 to 4 true leaves , remove the unhealthy seedlings and keep only the healthy one .

Management of well-lit and well-ventilated premises

Sunlight is crucial for plant growth. Ensure seedlings receive ample sunlight and maintain good ventilation to prevent disease.

Reasons for germination failure

Reason 1: Temperature

The germination temperature is around 25-30 °C . Have you been able to maintain this temperature?

Reason 2: Soil moisture (dryness)

If the soil moisture dries out, the seeds that were originally moist will become dry , and the germination rate will decrease.

Reason 3: Excessive soil moisture

If the soil is too wet, the seeds will not be able to breathe and will rot.

Reason 4: Individual differences in seeds

If the seeds are too old , the germination rate will be poor.

The flowers don't bloom! Nor do they bear fruit!?

Reason 1: Lack of sunlight

Be sure to place it in a well-ventilated, sunny place and let it sit in the sun for at least 4 to 5 hours.

Reason 2: Excessive moisture

Because they have ample water and live a safe life, their reproductive instincts may have diminished.
Therefore, you can deliberately drain the water multiple times until they wither, in order to stimulate them.

Reason 3: Excessive fertilizer

Fertilizer is not a necessity, so if you are using it, please minimize the amount you use.

Causes of plant wilting

Reason 1: Overwatering (root rot)

Reason 1: Overwatering (root rot)

Another reason is over-care and excessive daily watering.
If the soil is too wet, the roots cannot breathe and will rot and die. The roots will shrink and disappear, turn brown, and become thin and fragile.

Reason 2: Dryness

If you forget to water your plants, the soil will dry out and the plants will wither.
The leaves will become dry and brittle.
If there is still moisture in the leaves, water them thoroughly.
They might be able to recover.

Reason 3: Lack of sunlight (Extended)

If the seedlings do not receive enough sunlight after germination, the stems will grow too quickly and eventually break under the weight of the flower heads, causing the plant to wither. Make sure the plant receives ample sunlight and avoid overwatering.

Reason 4: The temperature is not suitable

Every plant has its optimal growth temperature.
Both excessively high and low temperatures can slow down plant growth and even cause plants to wither.
